Shawn, Ruthann and I had the pleasure speaking to a great group of young aspiring entrepreneurs at Boston University Tuesday night. It was fantastic to meet so many students taking an early interest in starting their own ventures and resisting the normalcy of working for “The Man” when they graduate. Extra credit to those that were there too…considering it was a beautiful 75 degree spring evening in Boston, not to mention the Red Sox were in town.

Some other speakers included Yair Marcow and Will Thomas of Mavenomics, Ben Casnocha, Author of My Start-Up Life and Ben Cathers, Co-Founder of Search Rate Technologies. All equally interesting and talented entrepreneurs.

Special thanks to Lisa Hoyman, Michael Rodov and Florence Zagruzny for hosting such a great event!

Ok…just did a link to a bunch of songs about money on Wikipedia and it got us thinking about movies about money. All of us here at Geezeo are huge movie fans so we thought we would start to put together a list of some of the movies we like that base the plot around money. Once we have a good list we’ll do another post. One of my favorites is Trading Places. We’d love to hear about some of your favorites.

Doing your taxes sounds like less fun than taking your finals, but don’t be so glum. Doing your taxes could actually get you some cash back in your pocket. If you’ve had any money taken out of your paychecks you could have a refund coming your way. For some extra guidance on filing your taxes as a college student check out these 12 Tax Tips for College Students and this article from UNM’s Daily Lobo.

If you’re a recent grad you should check out some of these tips from TurboTax. TurboTax addresses deductions like Student Loan Interest, Moving Expenses and Job Hunting costs. All of which can put more cash in your pocket come tax time.

Chris H

booboo headHi Chris! Before we get into the meat, or bones, of this interview, please tell us a little bit about your college background.

I recently graduated from Northeastern University in the heart of Red Sox Nation, Boston, MA. I took part in NU’s co-op program and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and Entrepreneurship.

booboo headFor all the readers out there, what are some of your favorite things to do?

I’m a huge fan of music, both listening to it and creating it. I’ve been producing hip-hop beats for a few years now and would love to someday have my own studio. I’m also interested in entrepreneurship and would love to one day start my own company. Other than that, I’m into just about all sports, hanging out with friends and long walks on the beach. OK, that last one wasn’t serious, but I do like the beach.

I love the beach too – playing in the sand is my favorite! I also look great in my bikini… OK, I’m not serious about that either!

booboo headDo you get scared about the student loans barking at your door?!

Well they’ve already been barking at me for a little while now, so I’m starting to get used to them.

booboo headWhat’s your plan for paying off your college debt?

I’m set up on a monthly payment plan, which I think works out pretty well for me. Fortunately, I’m working full time, so that’s helping out with the payments.

booboo headDid you let credit card debt dig its teeth into you during your college career?

Luckily, I was able to stay away from credit card debt during college.

booboo headWhat are some of your financial goals?

I’d like to start investing more in the near future, pay off some of these nasty college loans and eventually get invited to sign up for a Black American Express card.

The Black Diamond! Bow down sales people!

booboo headWhat is your prediction of your financial situation in 5 years? How do you plan on getting there?

Hopefully, I’ll be on my second real estate venture by then, with some great credit and less college loans to worry about. I plan on working hard for the money, so you better treat me right. Great song.

booboo headDo you currently use any software or other tools to track your finances?

Currently, the only thing I use to track my finances are Excel and a filing cabinet with bills in it.

booboo headIf there was an easy to use, fun program to help you keep track of your finances, find the right credit cards and loans, help you to save, and do so much more, would you use it?

Well, that just sounds too good to pass up.

Chris, it is too good to pass up!

booboo headIf you could buy anything in the world, what would you buy?

A beach house in the Caribbean with my own private recording studio. A nice ocean view wouldn’t hurt either ;-)

Hey, you can put your beach house on your Black AMEX!

Of course!

booboo headThanks for your time; it’s been great!!

Thank you Booboo!
