Opening a credit card is a huge responsibility that you want to make sure you are ready for. Are you ready for such a high responsibility? I sure hope so! But here are some tips that may help you out…
DONT open one of those credit cards that offers a “free” t-shirt, or hat, or anything else. Technically they are free, but you get stuck with a credit card that has an extremely high APR and even higher fees!
Student credit cards are always the first that you look at…but be wary of these! They don’t offer any rewards and the APRs are normally higher than most regular cards. Students automatically apply for these because they don’t have a credit history. But don’t give up on the regular reward cards first, you don’t want to miss out on the good stuff!
1. Chase Flexible Rewards — 14.24% APR, no annual fee, earn 1 point per $1 spent
2. Chase Student Flexible Rewards — 18.24% APR, no annual fee, earn 1 point per $1 spent
3. Citi Diamond Preferred Rewards — 13.24% APR, no annual fee, earn 1 point per $1 spent…in the first year you earn 5 points per $1 spent at drugstores, gas stations, and supermarkets.
4. Discover Platinum Card — 10.99% APR, no annual fee, earn up to 1% cash back on general purchases and 5% for “Get More” specified purchases.
These are just a few good starter credit cards! You can find more information about additional cards at http://finance.yahoo.com/college-education/article/103295/Tools-for-Fina
And remember, just be responsible and think about what your purchasing and if you have enough money — if all goes well, you will run into no problems! :o)
