Have you considered getting a gift card as a Christmas present? Monroe on a Budget says that she is “totally OK with giving and receiving gift cards.” She also states “if you don’t know what store’s gift card to pick, give cash. Money enclosed in an envelope has long been an acceptable gift, and the cash can be combined with someone else’s gift card for a very nice purchase.”
How do you know which one to choose? Money Smart Life can help! “The secret when you’re not sure is to go general, not too specific.” Some of the examples include places such as Overstock.com and ITunes.
Looking beyond buying presents, you may start thinking about your goals you wanted to accomplish this year. Unfortunately, too many of us will say that we almost did this or that. We almost put that money aside for our emergency fund. We almost paid extra on our credit cards to pay down the debt.
By actually working on your goals, and not spending the money elsewhere, you can then turn your attention to other things. For instance, maybe it’s time to purge yourself of unneccesary items.
Are you being frugal this holiday season? Let us know in our groups such as Financially Frugal Families and Couples & Money. Also, if you are interested in giving for a cause during this time, let us know about that too in our group Community Outreach.
