Keeping a New Year’s resolution for an entire year is an extremely difficult thing to do. We can always think of millions of reasons to give up: not enough time, too stressful, too much other work to do, etc. The list can go on and on with every individual having their own reasons that they are throwing in the towel.
But before you give up on this year’s resolution, consider the reasons why you shouldn’t give up…
It is Something You are Doing for YOU – With everyone else in your life that you are always doing things for, your boss, your family, your friends…when do you find time to think about yourself? Sometimes we get so caught up in everything else going on, that we overlook the things that we want to do for ourselves. Your New Year’s resolution is always something that you want to do. Make sure you stick to it so that you know you are taking care of yourself, as well as everyone else in your life.
It Can Make All the Difference in the Long Run – Often New Year’s resolutions are not something that can be completed quickly or easily (which is why you haven’t found the time in the past to do them). Sticking with your New Year’s resolution can make all the difference to your future. Whether your resolution is quitting smoking, saving more money, paying off your debt, or losing weight…all these will effect who you are in the future and hopefully make you better off. If you just decide to give up, will any of these ever be accomplished?
Provides You With a Challenge – Sometimes we find ourselves bored with our jobs or life in general and want something to provide a challenge. If you choose something that you have found difficult to do in the past for your New Year’s resolution, it can provide you with an exciting challenge that will add to your everyday life. Break out of your daily routine and stick with your resolution in order to see the results you were looking for!
Gives You a Great Sense of Accomplishment and Success – At the end of the year, or whenever you reach your New Year’s resolution goal, you will have a great sense of accomplishment within yourself. If you haven’t already, try to make a plan for yourself and track your success every 2 weeks or so. This way you can celebrate your successes and enjoy your accomplishments as you go.
Sticking with a New Year’s resolution is extremely difficult, but there are so many reasons to stick with it. Just remember, your New Year’s resolution was never meant to be easy…otherwise you would have accomplished it a long time ago.
