Are You Paying Too Much On-line?
March 1st, 2009 by Chelsea Gladden

If you’re still feeling motivated to save in the New Year,  follow these four simple suggestions when shopping on-line and be proud that you’re not only keeping your resolutions, but also money in your pocket.

Treasure Hunt

No matter the item your heart desires, always google it to double check that there aren’t greater savings elsewhere. Even if you don’t plan to make your final purchase on-line, be sure to price compare. For example, that 40” flat screen tv may be on sale at Best Buy, but do a quick search to make sure the savings aren’t greater anywhere else. You may be pleasantly surprised that Costco has an even better deal this week.

Discount Sites

Several sites offer great discounts on items and include free shipping! Amazon.com offers books and music as well as a variety of other things at discount prices and if you spend $25 or more, the shipping is free.  Zappos.com and EyeSave.com are a great way to style yourself in new shoes and sunglasses respectively. Generally these types of sites don’t charge for return shipping, but if you’d rather spare yourself the effort, head to your nearest retail store and find the perfect pair and then order it on-line at a discount.

Again With the Google

Before you hit that final “Place Order” button, open a new browser window and do a quick search for any relevant coupons. For example, just as you are about to send your mom flowers,  search for “1-800-flowers” coupons. At the very least you are likely to find “$5 off” or possibly even free delivery.

Direct Coupon Hunt

Other great sites such as Couponcabin.com let you bargain hunt directly before purchasing. This is a great way to choose where to shop. For example, the two year old in your life needs the Elmo Live and you plan to purchase it at Toys R Us. After checking your favorite coupon site, you see Target is offering $5 off, so it’s the smarter place to purchase.

Savings like these add up so let your keyboard do the shopping.

$6,000 could go a long way toward reducing your debt. Win this or other great prizes in the Great Geezeo Bailout!
