A recent confession stated:

Has been procrastinating getting a budget set up and I’m finding Geezeo a little confusing :-(

So if you too are wondering about how to get started with your budget, then keep reading!

First off, you will want to have at least one account linked up to Geezeo.  It will make a lot more sense if you have gone through the steps of adding your account and tagging your transactions.  For more information on how to do that, see this FAQ.

Next, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Budgets located under the “My Geezeo” tab in the top bar. Select the blue link “Budgets” and click. (You can also get there by clicking on the “Budgets” link in your left side navigation bar)
  2. Click on the blue link “Edit Income” to the right of the screen under the date menu
  3. Click the blue “Add Income Source Link”
  4. Enter you Income information
  5. Add another income source if applicable or click the blue “Go to Budgets” link
  6. Click the blue “Add New Budget Item” link to start adding Budget Items (Spending Targets & Bills)
  7. Decide if you want to add a “Spending Target” or a “Bill”
  8. Repeat until you have put in all of your expenses.

Spending Target: Everyday costs like groceries, entertainment, or coffee. These expenses can be linked to a tag. The tag then links to your account transactions (if you’ve previously uploaded an account).

  • For Example: When you shop at the grocery store, the amount spent will automatically be applied to the corresponding budget category. (Note: You can add multiple tags here. For example : If you create a spending target for “Transportation”, this may include multiple tags such as: Gas, Tolls, Car.)

Bill: Reoccurring expenses like rent, auto loan, or utilities. These expenses have a due date and you can input them into a calendar to keep track of your Cashflow.
