It’s all the rage right now for people to be thinking more about the environment and their impact on it. When it comes to home decor, there is a lot of “green” products to choose from. And while these items are great, what’s even better are items that you already have around your home that can be re-purposed, or even re-built, to create something new.

Many times, to achieve satisfaction of redecorating, all you may need to do is re-arrange your furniture. It can definitely help give you a new perspective on things, and you may not need to buy a thing at all! Hence, you are reducing your consumption by using what you already have.
To reuse something you have, you can simply put it in another area of your house that will make it more useful. Old end tables in your living room can become side tables in your bedroom. A small round side table could become a little workstation in a corner for your laptop. A shelf could be used in many rooms for many purposes. Organize books, movies, or even children’s toys.
If you are even more inventive, you could reuse these items by building something completely different out of them. How about combining some shelving for a unique entertainment center. This could hold movies, viewing equipment, or just a little bit of personal knickknacks.
But what if you don’t have the tools? Well, to save yourself some money, you could always borrow them from a friend. But a good set of basic tools will never be a bad investment. In fact, you could save some money learning how to be a do-it-yourself-er (just be sure to leave certain jobs to the professionals!).
Are you wondering where you could get some bright ideas on how to repurpose items into something new? Doing a quick search on the web for what you are wanting could give you several ideas on what you could use. Try browsing sites such as Instructables or Ikea Hacker.
Finally, for those items that you just aren’t sure where else you could put them, or how you could manipulate them into a new creation, use sites like Craigslist and Freecycle to help your “trash” become another persons “treasure”.
